Climate Change Wisconsin / Driftless Area

Hola Friends -

Once again Marshall at MidCurrent finds a nugget right in my own backyard. The difference? He works; I dabble. That notwithstanding the video and information on the Driftless area found on the Climate Wisconsin web site is very informative. Great information, nice videos, and good information about climate change and the impact here in the land of cheese. Worth a look. Much of this research comes from the UW-Madison. I should pay more attention (I do work there!). A tip of the hat to the gang at MidCurrent. Enjoy the video, support the hard working folks in the Dritless area, and help protect this Wisconsin resource.

That's Why I Catch and Release

Hola Amigos -

A wonderful article about fish and how environmental contamination continues to harm an otherwise healthy food choice can be found on the UW-Madison web site. The article is from Grow: Wisconsin's Magazine for the Life Sciences. The Trout Buddha doesn't chase Lake Trout unless they are heading up river in the fall. However this article is a stark reminder that all anglers need to be environmentalists - whether we keep em to eat or throw em back.

UW Extension Program is Using Songs to Raise Awareness of Invasive Species

The Trout Buddha finds himself smack in the middle of the target demographic for a new program from the UW Extension (University of Wisconsin - Madison).  The program is using songs to raise awareness of invasive species.  The target audience are 35-55 year old fishermen. Fishermen are most likely to move between bodies of water and increase the risk of transferring aquatic invasive species. The program also targets the middle aged crowed by using classic rock, folk, and country music.

The UW-Extension web-site for the program is a wealth of information and user friendly. Environmental Communications Specialist Assistant Professor Bret Shaw from the Department of Life Sciences Communication worked with singer/songwriters to produce the songs.

Very cool.  Send this one to your friends. A great program right here in our own backyard.

Early Season is Here!

A nice article in the Wisconsin State Journal featuring a former student from the Trout Buddha's Intro to Fly Fishing course at UW-Madison.

Nice job Zach!
